My mom, being from the south of France, and also having the best legs in the game, has always harped on the shorter the better. Now, I know that might not be everyone’s experience growing up, but when it comes to taking my mother’s advice, this is but just one suggestion I have held onto through and through.
The way I look at it is that we’ve been blessed with legs to get us from point A to point B (and C, & D, & E), to dance til the wee hours of the morning, to exercise, to everything. They really are our biggest asset so you might as well love them, thank them, and show them off.
Below are a few pieces I’ve been eyeing/would suggest you take a look at if you’re interested in showing off your stems through Labor Day (and beyond). Plus, some are part of the final days of summer sales.
The Harriette Dress is from Usisi Sister. An ex colleague of mine and her sister created this brand which boasts the easiest silhouettes in fun colors, sustainable fabric, approachable price points — all the good stuff. This dress speaks to me because of the gorgeous hue of red it’s made in, but also because of the fact that I’d be able to wear this in the city with a pair of loafers just as well as at the beach with some flip-flops and my beach bag in tow.
As most of you know, Courrèges (a brand my mother would tell me about when I was young) has made a huge comeback in the last few years, especially when it comes to bare legs. This classic mini skirt, which comes in various colors, while not on sale, is a great investment piece. Wear it up or down with an oversized button-down, a turtleneck, a chunky knit, you cannot go wrong.
I personally love a classy comfy moment. As you may have picked up on, I love to be comfortable yet still look somewhat put together. These boxer shorts are perfect for the job, paired with a vintage tee, an oversized blazer, and a sneaker with a sock. Grab your tote and you’re ready to roll.
The. Best. Dress. Ever. In every color. Another ex colleague of mine went on to start his own swimwear line, called Anemos. Not only do they have the best bathing suits, but I really look to them for easy summer dressing. The materials are amazing and the cuts are even better. Style it with sandals, sneakers, or flats, and you’re ready to head out the door.
A pair of tailored shorts - I love these black ones from Sir the Label, but tan is great to have in your closet too. I’d wear these - day to night - with a white tee, a fisherman shoe, and a little camel-colored bag like this one I got on Etsy. Some good earrings could go a long way too.
Introducing multi-purpose dressing - from bed to blacktop. Insert, this slip dress. I know what you are probably thinking, however I would argue that there is a way to make this look super easy and chic. Wear a button down on top, a comfortable pair of shoes - whether that be a sneaker or a flat - and off you go.
In conclusion, and also my personal favorite, the mini shirt dress. This one by Yaitte is great because it’s a bit more fitted on the hips. I also love just an oversized tunic shirt worn as a dress. Crisp, clean, easy, feels like you’re wearing nothing. You can even add a fun belt to it if you're looking for a more cinched waist.
Great now get out there and show off those beautiful legs of yours - à la prochaine!
