Does anyone else feel like sh*t has been wonky lately?! Between every planet being in retrograde, crazy happenings/tragedies in the news, the rain storms, cooler temps, liiiife…It’s been tough for me to get moving in the morning, unless, UNLESS, I’m wearing some sort of cute/chic/fabulous get up. I know a little birdie may have recently told you that shorter is the way to go, but I’ve been veering towards maxi looks lately. It’s honestly just easy, comfortable, and typically looks elegant. What is not to love?
Here are a few outfits I’ve worn lately/that I wear often whether I’m at the beach or in the city, along with many comps and unsolicited suggestions.
*NB - I apologize that a few of these things cannot be purchased any longer - really dug through my closet and am trying to wear things I already OWN! …However, let this be your guide to finding what might be comfy and look great as the summer comes to its end (too soon).
The maxi skirt
This is an old Elie Tahari skirt but here is a good comp by by Maline Birger…the matching top is also super chic. Button down is old Loewe x Paula’s Ibiza but honestly love this. Or this if I’m being more reasonable. Shoes are Vibi Venezia. IMO, these make every outfit look slightly more feminine and come in different shapes and every color you can imagine/want.
The LBD (Long Black Dress)
This is old Rachel Comey, which I wish I had gotten it in olive green at the sample sale this past spring because this is a forever dress and so easy to dress up or down. Also, if you haven’t been to the RC sample sale, I believe it happens twice a year, and it is definitely work waiting on line for. Subscribe to their website if only to get the dates for the sale. Here is a good comp by Posse. Pair with some cute black flats and an easy little bag, ideally a colorful one unless you’re going for a more monochrome look. (Also dying for these once my next paycheck rolls in).
The printed mu-mu/kaftan dress
You’ve seen the bag and the Havainas in my pervious newsletters…but the dress is another Greek find of mine that people often ask me about. Here is a good comp (also one I want to add to cart ASAP) and just don’t sleep on Kashish…it’s become my go-to brand for well priced summer dresses. Yummy materials and v v affordable and always looks put together.
The pareo skirt
Button down is one of my favorites and it’s old Noah that I found at a sample sale in NYC years ago. They make the longest-lasting button-downs…at least the ones in my closet. Here is a good comp, though lighter colors. Here’s another good comp. Thank G*d for mens’ shirting. The pareo is from a small boutique in the 6th in Paris that I always go to when I find myself in Paris. Everything they make is amazing and well priced so make sure to take a full gander at the website. Havaianas are the same as always and I will stand by flip-flops forever, no matter what anyone says. A good tote is a summer (and every other season) necessity. Got this one from my friends at Jolie - if you don’t have one of their shower heads, well, get one. Your hair and skin will thank you. Otherwise, head to LL Bean, their monogramed totes are a must have.
The summer formal wedding dress
This is a Paco Rabanne dress that you may be able to find in your size on the Real Real or if you dig very deep on the WWW. However, while this is very different, I’d accessorize it the same way to achieve the same effect. The point is that a printed gown is very fun paired back to some gold accessories. Shoes are old Saint Laurent that I had found on sale in 2019 that I have worn to death. These are a great comp and ones that I have been eyeing for a bit. The clutch is Hayward… not sure who remembers that brand but I don’t know where I’d be without this guy. This feels like a good comp at a good price! Some other gowns I’m eyeing as I gear up for fall wedding season: this for a fun glam look, this for some va va voom, this being a dress I would do crazy things for but could never afford.
The button-down shirtdress
Last but not least, the shirtdress. This one is old Rebecca de Ravenel, back to when she made ready-to-wear…however she still makes jewelry, bags, and homewares and these earrings are my current obsession. Back to the dress - a good comp is Xirena. They make a shirt dress called the Boden Dress in all different colors and I’m currently swooning over this one. Wear as is or belt it. Throw on a flat, or even an espadrille if you want to dress it up a bit, and a little bag and you’re ready to go.

That’s all out of me this week. À la prochaine!
